Slim’s Country Market has been a staple of Story City, Iowa for the last 80 years. Operating seasonally from April to October, they offer a wide variety of fresh produce such as watermelon, tomatoes, peaches, sweet corn and more. Promoting other local businesses has always been a passion for the owners, Kent and Jessica Allen, and this year, they partnered with Bethany Life Volunteers to help support them in their mission. The Allen’s offered Slim’s to be a storefront for Bethany Life Volunteers, giving them a space to sell their handcrafted products. Before closing for the year, people were able to purchase tea towels, dog toys, dish scrubbers, and hand carved wooden children’s toys made right here in Story City. By the end of the season, Bethany Life Volunteers made a total of $1,777 in sales at Slim’s Country Market. The volunteers then graciously turn around and donate their proceeds to a chosen project here at The Households of Bethany. Last year, the volunteers chose to dedicate their generous gift towards finishing the sensory rooms.
